We are the Reclaiming Indigeneity Society

Our mission is to support sustainable development using traditional skills and values, to preserve and revive culture, and to promote the health of our communities and their people.

Our vision is to transform the arts and culture landscape in Southern Alberta to reflect the true capacity, history, and potential, of its people. At the hub of this endeavor will be a multipurpose centre and museum developed for and by the communities artists, storytellers, and traditional leaders; through this endeavor we propose to connect the Aboriginal communities with the greater Albertan, Canadian, and world context.

Why Morley?

The members of our society all have strong ties to Morley, whether we live there, love there, or grew up their, we all have an amazing amount of respect for the Stoney Nakoda peoples, and a huge spot in our hearts for their traditional lands.

We also know that the people of Morley are in need, ready for change, and willing to help (stats are for Stoney Nakoda population):

73% of the population is under 30

60% of homes are in need of major repair (compared to an average of only 17% for Alberta)

87% of Stoney Nakoda people living on their reserve speak an Aboriginal language, indicating the strength and prevalence of culture.

66% of people 15 years and older have no recognized diploma degree or certification.

38% unemployment rate.

The highest population bracket is young children, these new people need a world in which they can thrive.
